Identity is a sticky wicket in today’s culture. Fundamental to the debate is (1) where identity comes from, (2) whether identity is inherent or ascribed, and (3) who gets to decide the validity of a given identity.
If your go-to response to tragedy is “Prayers!” then you have engaged in a pat-on-the-back forfeiture of actual empathy.
I pray for the president. I pray for him every day. But I do not pray for his success, and there is nothing wrong with that.
There is no necessary correlation between rejection and righteousness.
